Amy always had a passion for animals.
At a young age, one would always find a dog at her side. Her first dog Toby, a Miniature Dachshund, was the perfect sized companion. Being an only child of a single mother, Amy quickly found a special connection with dogs. Amy would knock on doors in her neighborhood offering to help walk dogs, focusing her attention to the neighborhood dogs that were tied up in backyards to a doghouse in an effort to encourage each dog to live an enriched life full of companionship.
As the years passed, Amy’s love for dogs continued to grow, although it expanded to larger breeds including a Siberian Husky, a Chocolate Labrador as well as a Chesapeake Bay retriever. But it was not until Amy owned a pit mix that she encountered severe behavioral issues. Amy wanted a deep understanding of why these specific behaviors were occurring, not just learning how to stop them.
Some of these behavioral issues included severe leash reactivity, lunging, pulling & fear/aggression.
In response, Amy embarked on a career which included caring for dogs and ultimately becoming a dog trainer. Amy’s mentors in her formative years included other trainer's who utilized a variety of training techniques. However, Amy wanted a deeper understanding of dog training and more knowledge than she was receiving. Numerous dog trainers later, Amy found the knowledge she was longing for that she could utilize on her own animals. This involved a balanced approach of clear communication, trust, leadership, respect, & cooperation.
Ultimately, Amy’s mission is to keep dogs in their homes. To make a difference relative to the amount of dogs being surrendered, abandoned or subject to euthanasia as well as to educate owners & dogs alike. Every dog is an individual as a human and they all have specific needs. This is why Amy prides herself in approaching each client and dog as a unique relationship.
